Report 21st June 2011

The memories of 2008 - 2009 and 2010 on Solstice nights will indeed be just memories and the distant lights and drums are still echoing in our minds. We did our usual all night vigil on the night before the   Solstice, it was damp, with scattered showers and a distinctive cool breeze in the air. Distant drums could be heard from and around the Avebury Stones with an occasional cheer of voices. Police cones scattered everywhere so parking within the area was virtually impossible, so we drove to our regular vantage point to observe the night skies, but this time nothing to see apart from the odd Chinese lantern rising high into the night sky. The area and its associated phenomenon has indeed been very quiet this year so far. No sightings of unexplained lights , nothing unusual captured on camera and nothing mysterious glistening in the distant woods. ( Well so we thought ! )

But yet three teams of circle makers braved the cold and damp weather and were quietly busy around Stone Henge and Creepy West Woods.

( Yes there was 3 teams - there should have been 4 crop circles on this night - but we have since found out that one was abandoned while in the making )

Heres one that appeared at Stone Henge which was dedicated to the anarchist punk group called ' CRASS '. But this is what Francine Blake from Wiltshire Crop Circle Study Group (WCCSG) had to say in the Salisbury Journal on 11th July 2011.

THE first two crop circles of the summer have appeared close to Stonehenge.
Both lie in a barley field just off the A360, near Airman’s Corner.
Francine Blake of the Wiltshire Crop Circle Study Group said the first, which is 170ft in diameter, is an important symbol similar to one from the ancient Mayan culture, lying east-west and linking past and future.
Some enthusiasts have pointed out that it is identical to a logo used by the anarchist punk band Crass 30 years ago, representing the idea that great power will eventually destroy itself.
The second symbol, of two circles touching, measures 130ft by 80ft, and is said to relate to a partial solar eclipse on July 1.

It would appear that Francine Blake didn't do some simple homework  - it doesn't look very Ancient Mayan Symbology !
If you can find this symbol in the Mayan Culture then please do let me know.

This formation was made in the same field and on the same night.

The above large circle on the right of the image was supposed to have been completed on Solstice night. We have been informed by the crew who attempted to make this formation that meticulous planning went into making it. They spent two hours discussing it and a further two hours spent in trying to find a location. When they finally ended up in the chosen field and begun making this formation things took a turn and all hell went lose. While one team was flattening and one team was constructing two unexplained orange lights appeared in the clump of trees at the very top of the above image. This of course created a curiosity and everyone stopped work, but what happened next puzzled every team member. All of a sudden one member threw his board and walked away in a huff, followed by the next and so on until everyone dispersed and went their own separate ways. Arguments flared later in trying to figure out why such action took place but rather oddly no one could place a sensible answer to why they did what they did ! ( Odd indeed ).
So several nights later two team members returned to the same location just to observe the area, just to see if any other lights showed up etc.
They sat there for several hours and did not see anything out of the ordinary but then they felt the need to reconstruct part of the original design ( not all of it ). So they went inside the large ring and started to look for a board and rope which was dumped in this field several nights earlier. Having found the single dumped board and  rope they set of to make a smaller version of the intended design ( as seen above ). The only parts they didnt include are two inner rings ( as seen in the large ring ) which were supposed to include some very controversial wording. The wording is controversial that's without doubt, so controversial that even we have even decided not to use it here.
The team having sorted their differences then decided to redesign this formation but still the controversial wording was going to be included in their design .
One team member said ' THIS DAM CROP CIRCLE IS JUST NOT MEANT TO BE ' as an additional 4 attempts to create this controversial formation were attempted, but on every occasion something went wrong !!!. He also said ' WE HAVE NEVER HAD THESE KIND OF PROBLEMS BEFORE - SOMETHING JUST DOESN'T WANT US TO MAKE THIS CIRCLE - WE HAVE MADE OTHER CIRCLES WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS, BUT WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO MAKING THIS ONE THEN THINGS JUST GO WRONG' .. So in the end they abandoned the design completely and continued to make other circles without using the intended wording and without any problems.
I suggested that the design was not intended for this year - it was more appropriate for 2012 . The team agreed and did state that they will attempt to reconstruct this formation sometime in 2012.
